My Grandma’s Apple Strudel

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced tart apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Crust:

  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ cups shortening

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 egg yolks

  • Enough water to make the egg yolks equal 1 cup of liquid

  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten (for brushing)

For the Simple Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons milk or light cream (adjust for desired consistency)
